What can you tell about your Äl Jawala remixing experience ?

Silenta started the remix by himself, CMC went to the studio the next day, opened up the project, copied the bass line midi files and rearragended it a bit. We added some new intruments and used some horn- and percussion- stems of the original. The remix already got huge response from the scene and was played on all big north american festivals by The Funk Hunters and Stickybuds, big Djs in the scene over there. The original material was great and everything was very well organised.

Please tell us something about you and your music...

We make music together for 5 years now, as a DJ and Producer duo. Silenta is the multiintrumentalist, mixmaster, and production mastermind. CMC is Dj and bassplayer and responsible for the club arrangements and bass sounds. He also is the businessman. Together we founded Manmade and Roca Records and we just released our debut album „Get it on now“. We´re producing break beat, like Funky Breaks, Drum n Base, Hiphop, Ragga, Ghettofunk...etc.

Just have a listen!

What can you tell about your Äl Jawala remixing experience ?

I was in contact via mail with everybody who sent us remixes during the last year.

A mind blowing experience because by doing this, I more and more understood what “Blast Your Ghetto” really is about! And I was amazed by the great readiness to work together and to share, everybody was sending out with every mail and every new version coming in! Thank you!!!

Another great experience was to meet a new side of my rhythm-section-mate Pelle. This side is called Pellectronica!! And talking about new sides: CMC & Silenta plunged straight into Balkan Beats with “Narodna International”! In any case they helped and inspired us bigtime!

Special thanx I send out to Lady Hatari!

What can you tell about your Äl Jawala remixing experience ?

Backstabbers is our 2nd Al Jawala remix, following Poznash from the previous album. The Al Jawala & Gypsy Hill sounds fit together perfectly; we approached this remix from a different angle, we wanted to make a track that would keep the dancefloor moving.. Also works really well at funerals...

What can you tell about your Äl Jawala remixing experience ?

Äl Jawala and I are long time accomplices in music, design and life – so I know their cosmos quiet well. It was my second remix for Äl Jawala and I decided for a comparable slow track this time. In fact I wanted a female rapper on the beat, but at the end of the day I did it myself and I had tremendous fun rapping.

What can you tell about your Äl Jawala remixing experience ?

In summer 2011 at Nuevo Sol Festival near Rostock I was playing after the bands all three nights. Saturday Äl Jawala played on the big stage... and blew my head! Such an espectacular concert , from the begining till the end non-stopp-dancing! Super Musicians, very talented and full of energy! Super good Vibes, one of the best Balkan Bands that i have seen.

After one year I saw this contest for remixing one song of the new album, and i made it ...then pow! They like my version, so we do some work together in the arrangements ; was a very nice and enriching experience. I´m very happy to participate in this compilation and i looking forward for play together in Jawala Festival!. A Bailar! Oooopa!!!!

What can you tell about your Äl Jawala remixing experience ?

As a super keen sample hunter, my discovery of the Blast Your Ghetto remix campaign was a big treat for me. Adding a big beat with a bigger bass-line is what I like best, so being able to do this with some superb and original Balkan stems was a lot of fun!

The track I chose was the perfect tempo for a good Hip Hop style beat with a wobbly Ghetto Funk inspired bass-line to make any soundsystem go boom. I hope everyone enjoys listening to it as much as I enjoyed making it!

Please tell us something about you and your music...

I was raised in Ireland on a steady diet of Punk, Ska, Techno and alcohol. Moving to Bristol UK was the catalyst for an unfolding of musical tentacles that reached out and grabbed on to as many genres and styles available. Reggae, Balkan, Latino, Hip-Hop, Swing and Funk all got blended with phat beats and bulky bass-lines to make the crowds wobble and shake. This has gained me residencies at the mighty, Boomtown Fair and Bambi Legs as well as lots of sets at festivals and clubs all over the UK and Europe.

What can you tell about your Äl Jawala remixing experience ?

At the beginning my Remixes were full of ideas but a little chaotic and often overloaded. And I learned a lot, by working together with Markus, Daniel and Thilo "Silenta"! Everybody contributed to the songs due to their own experience.

I play drums, didge and keys in Äl Jawala. When i was 14 years, i heard the Bulgarian voices for the first time. At this time (1994) i was very much into electronic music! And the idea of mixing it with this balkan-folklore followed me all my live!

What can you tell about your Äl Jawala remixing experience ?

I discovered Äl Jawala because they started following me on soundcloud and instantly became a huge fan.  I listened to nothing but them for a couple of weeks.  Soon I regularly watched people run to the dancefloor when I dropped  Äl Jawala into dj my sets.
Blast Your Ghetto remix campaign amazed me because it's an incredibly generous and brave gift to just put out an entire album of stems for anyone to download.  It resonates with some of my personal attitudes and values.  Money comes with the territory of being an awesome artist loved by fans.  It's analogous to how creators of great open-source software tend to gain big rewards even though they share the fruit of their labor for free.    This gift inspired an enabled me to achieve my next big goal as an EDM musician: to graduate from djing mashups and bootlegs by creating a large collection of professionally produced gypsoteka that I can use to blast my ghetto.  Working with Markus to meet Äl Jawala's  quality standards was valuable experience for me.  He listened to all revisions carefully and provided detailed feedback.  Most of it I agreed with but some was so nit-picky that my initial reaction was, "What the fuuuuuuuh?..  You've got to be kidding me!"  Then I did the fixes he suggested and the track always became better. It was kind of like getting kung-fu critique from Bruce Lee over email.

Once upon a time I spent a month in a small Caribbean village immersed in the implementation of recent experimental artistic vision.  I set out to fuse the passionate energy of Romani music with the unpredictable awesomes of EDM in a distinctly Makedon way.  This represents the fusion of my Eastern European heritage and the impact that Detroit techno and West Coast bass music had on me.  I coined the word "gypsoteka" to denote this completely new style to my region.  A year later, enough evidence exists to call the experiment a success.  My passion is to create provocative beauty and fun and to share it with my ghetto.  Music is particularly good medium for sharing of beauty because it cuts through cultural boundaries straight to the soul.  Truly soulful dance music is spoken and understood by all in the house that Jack built.  Gypsoteka takes advantage of that in order to cause American clubbers to shake their asses to something completely new and unexpected.  It's also pays a tribute to the Roma by propagating the beauty they create.

What can you tell about your Äl Jawala remixing experience ?

What can you tell about your Äl Jawala remixing experience ?

Since the first time we heard the sound of Äl Jawala, we where satisfied about their great musical quality.

There was not just a german band trying to play the grooves of our home country Romania. We where stoked: They had this kind of power-saxes we knew from Transsilvania, they harked back on that time not very well known gypsy Manele-sound and melted together the musical flavours of balkans and western culture.

That´s still our common ground!

Please tell us something about you and your music...

When we emigrated to Germany at the age of 14, we´d been overwhelmed by the variety of soundstyles. It took some years till our musical journey brought us back to the sounds of our childhood. This sound is different, this music still sounds great to us! So we started our mission to bring this specific groove here by playing it on parties- it was the birth of Balkanstyleee.

Now´s the time to move one step further – here´s our first release!

What can you tell about your Äl Jawala remixing experience ?

It was great. I was looking at the Cover for a while and it made me remember a nice experience I once had. I took the image in Urugay. The man on the motorcycle with the two Loudspeakers on the back drove through the town announcing parties on the weekend. The Loudspekaers on the bar were moving from side to side a little bit through the movement of his driving. This made a really nice sound effect. Announcing parties or other Events like this is a common thing in south america.

The Back cover Photo was on the way through the Chec Republic near the border to Austria.
